£1.5m library revamp is planned

A South Gloucestershire library is to be revamped with a £1.5m Lottery grant.

Yate residents are now being asked by South Gloucestershire Council what shape the changes to the main library should take.

The money will be used to develop the building's facilities in such a way as to boost engagement with the local community. It should be open by 2010.

Councillor Heather Goddard said: "Since the library was built in 1971 there has been a transformation in services."

"Many more are now provided and during that time the population served by the library has doubled."
